Visit Parque da Floresta and see All Year Round Festivals
Festivals or "Festas", allow travelers to experience Portugal's rich history and culture. The Portuguese people hold a deep respect for festivals which have its origins in ancient tradition and religion
Some of these festivals have been in existence for many centuries. Newer festivals (featuring art and movies) are also showcased throughout the country, illustrating modern culture. Portuguese "Festas" include religious festivals, pilgrimages, traditional dances, gastronomy, processions, firework displays, music, literature and dance
In the Portuguese calendar there are many occasions to go out into the streets and celebrate
Celebrations for patron saints and the Virgin Mary are liveliest. You'll find music, dancing, plenty of colour and streets full of flowers. But the celebrations of the Holy Spirit in the Azores are just as vibrant
The Christian festivals of Easter and Christmas are equally worth a visit, as Portuguese people come together around the table to eat, drink and have a good time. These are real family occasions, but don't be surprised if this hospitality is also extended to you and your family!
And if you come for Christmas, you should stay for the New Year and enjoy the party atmosphere and sensational fireworks
